After a cancer diagnosis, it seems as though it invades every aspect of your life. Simply trying to go to the grocery season can create a huge obstacle. This is especially true if it is the height of cold and flu season-as a parent or caregiver you have to stay healthy in order to continue care. That is why today we are sharing a few way that someone can help you during this hectic time of year.
So if you are a parent or caregiver don’t be hesitant to ask for help. If you are a friend of a family with a pediatric cancer patient, lend a helping hand this holiday season:
- Grocery Shopping: Grocery stores are a mecca for germs. So, whether you are already making a trip or have time to spare, offer to pick up things for the family.
- Christmas Shopping: Doctor appointments, treatment days, labs and more consume your weekly schedules- it makes it difficult to do any sort of shopping. During the holiday season recruit some help to accomplish your children’s christmas shopping.
- Set up Car Pooling for Siblings: As you may know it is a delicate balance between ensuring equal attention of both your child with cancer and their siblings. If your other children are in extracurricular activities, set them up to car pool with their friends to practices. This will help limit the number of activities missed.
- Help Around the Home: The hospital may become a second home to you- which makes the comfort of your home that much more important. Don’t be afraid to ask for some help doing the daily little chores or tasks around yourhome. If you are a friend offer to help with light cleaning or even help putting up holiday decor.
There are so many ways to help this holiday season. If you are a friend don’t feel overwhelmed with challenging yourself to help in the largest way possible-sometimes the littlest act can do a world of wonders. If you are a parent or caregiver, do not hesitate to accept some help. We know that during this chaotic time in your life it may seem necessary to take control of the little tasks-but it is OKAY to receive help.
